Co-op News - February 22, 2008
Hello co-op friends!! This is your weekly food co-op announcement which will always include our latest member total. I will also talk about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. Thank-you everyone for helping to make Monday’s potluck dinner at Holy Angels such a wonderful event. We had over 65 people in attendance!! This was our largest potluck yet. The food was wonderful and plentiful. There was a lot of support and enthusiasm for our plans to open a co-op. Our potlucks continue to grow as our membership grows and we come closer to our goal of opening our storefront. We gained 5 new founding members at this potluck and we had a few checks come in the mail this week. This brings our current total to 105 founding members!!! We have officially broke the 100 member barrier!
Many people expressed an interest in volunteering and getting actively involved. There are a few upcoming events that you might be interested in. On the weekend of March 8 and March 9 Bill Gessner will be in town .He is a nationally recognized cooperative consultant who will be leading a business planning workshop. He will meet with us for 6 hours on Saturday and 6 hours on Sunday. If you are interested in being a part of this please check our website for more details(www.nolafoodcoop.org). Space is limited to a dozen or so people, so reserve a space soon.
We are having an outreach/membership committee meeting on Saturday, March 1 at 4 p.m. at the Sound cafe (corner of Chartres and Port). This goal of this committee is to increase our membership and spread the word about the co-op. Some of the topics of this meeting will include distributing brochures, creating counter-top displays for businesses that will let us promote the co-op, planning a Spring fundraising/membership drive event, planning our next potluck, etc. If you want to get involved and help out, please try to make it to this meeting.
As always our board of directors meetings are open to the public. Our next board meeting will be held on Wednesday Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. in the community center building at 623 North Rendon. This is directly to the left of the raised house.
Also we are planning on having our March potluck in the Treme. Monday the 24th is a good target date. We are still searching for a location. Does anyone know of a nice place where about 100 people can have a potluck dinner? If so, please e-mail me at john@nolafoodcoop.org or call me at 914-6936.
Thanks for being part of this wonderful effort to bring a cooperative grocery store to New Orleans!! I hope to see you at a
future meeting or event.
John
