CityBusiness reports on our Momentum

CityBusiness recently mentioned to co-op in their online publication. The article, entitled Momentum builds for N.O. food co-op gives a brief summary of the project and our role. It features quotes from our own John Calhoun, and from Pres Kabacoff the lead developer of the Healing Center.

There is an mention of the uniquesness of this project and how it may offer up an example of the kind of development that many of us desire for the city of New Orleans.

Kabacoff, who owns the building, has said that the community-based grocer is part of his larger vision of promoting sustainability in the city.

Additionally, the store is briefly described as a cooperatively owned enterprise that will carry a variety of conventional and organic products yet also be priced as economically as possible.

“We are making real progress towards opening our store next year,” said John Calhoun, who serves as vice president on the cooperative’s board of directors.

Calhoun described the cooperative as a “more affordable, locally based alternative” to Whole Foods Market and other national grocers.

Quotes above are from the article “Momentum builds for N.O. food co-op” by Ariella Cohen, originally published in City Business on February 27, 2008.
