Please consider joining one or more lists to find out what we’re doing and how you can take part.

The Announcement List - The announcements list is intended as a low volume list detailing upcoming events, meetings and community activities.

The Discussion Forum - This list has more messages than the announcements list, often several daily. Subscribers to this list should expect to receive details of recent meetings and events, along with a running dialogue on NOFC issues. Much of the preliminary discussion about the NOFC’s present and future decisions is worked out in this email forum.

The Action Team List - The Action Team is our name for our steering committee for opening our first retail store. The Action Team typically meets every two weeks and this mail list is usually discussing the agenda for these meetings or approval of the minutes following a meeting.

The Buying Club List - We use this list to discuss the details of buying club events and activities in more detail than what is of interest to the general forum. Questions about and proposals for the buying club should be directed to this forum.

Dela- We are the only game in town, an unfortunately, we do not yet have a storefront. We would love to have you participate in our buying club. We place/receive orders once every four weeks. We have available through our supplier a lot of bulk, canned goods, frozen and refrigerated items. No fresh produce or meats. Let me know directly if you want more info.

I saw this website on the back of a vehicle today while driving back from Chalmette to our home on Poland Ave. We are VERY interested in joining a coop and buy in bulk. At one time we had a restaurant in Covington and ordered directly from Tree of Life and Frontier Herbs. I know that there are probably many more companies to order from now. We really have a difficult time supporting Whole Paycheck. (Whole Foods)
We used to order thru our late friend, Dave Exnicios. Post Katrina and his death last year, we have not had the opportunity to order. Is this the same coop that Dave was a member of?? Please advise. We are ready to join a coop ASAP.

I have a small grove of about 100 satsuma trees in south Louisiana and am looking for a market to sell the fruit. Do you have buyers for satsumas now? I will deliver orders of at least 400#.

    Phillip and Sally and Anna,

Please send me an e-mail at info@nolafoodcoop.org and I will set you up with what you need to register for the Buying Club. Because of the limitations of our vendor, in order to browse our catalog, you must be given a log-in name by our Buying Club administrator. This log-in links you to the NOFC account at Morningside Organics so that any order you do decide to place is delivered to the proper venue. We are sorry about this extra step but for logistical reasons it is unavoidable.

Our Buying Club has been in operation since about two years before Katrina. I don’t believe it is the one that Dave Exnicios was in but it is likely that we were ordering from very similar catalogues. The distributor we now use, Morningside Organics, was previously Ozark Cooperative Warehouse. Ozark shut down and some of their members picked up where they left off. We were ordering from Ozark previously and when we looked at options for starting up again, we went with Morningside both to support a small regional distributor and because we were impressed with the case-splitting software they had to offer.

So far it’s working out pretty well, although there are always growing pains associated with any new business.

I hope this answers some of your questions.

Again, e-mail me at info@nolafoodcoop.org to get a registration log-on for the coop shopper website.

    Best,
    AmyGeorge

    Chad–

My sincerest apologies for not getting back to you sooner! Send me an e-mail at info@nolafoodcoop.org if you still have satsumas available or if you have any other citrus to offer.

We will have another distribution in just over two weeks, so whatever would be available closer to the end of January would be of interest to us.

    Best,
    AmyGeorge
